Where do students live and what are rents like?

The average rents (per property) and number of student houses in each district in England, for 2020.

Derived from openly available data (from MCLGH and ONS) with respect to 2020.

Rents are the average by property, not taking into account the size of the property. So an area with larger properties may show a higher rent but be more affordable to people renting a room in a shared house.

Student households are those claiming a council tax exemption for class N – these could include households made up of people studying at levels other than higher education.

Note: I’ve not had chance to fix the region filter – you’ll find Buckinghamshire (a LA I have ranted about before) and the City of London under “null”.
