Moderation policy

Wonkhe is published by Thesis House Ltd. We welcome comments on our articles, and we want the discussion to be worth reading. Moderation is there to keep things fair, civil and on-topic – not to suppress reasoned disagreement, including disagreement with us or our authors.

What we’ll publish

Comments will normally be approved as long as they:

• Respect other people. Disagree with arguments, not with people. Comments should not be malicious, abusive or a personal attack on someone’s character.
• Don’t incite hatred or discriminate on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic.
• Don’t include swearing, hate speech or obscenity.
• Don’t reveal personal details – yours or anyone else’s – such as private addresses, phone numbers or email addresses.
• Don’t break the law. That includes defamation, breach of confidence, breach of copyright, contempt of court, and condoning or encouraging illegal activity.
• Don’t discuss individual cases – for example, named students, staff, complaints, disciplinary or employment matters – where the people involved could be identified.
• Are reasonably concise and don’t amount to spamming.
• Don’t advertise products or services. You may mention relevant products or services where they genuinely support your point.
• Don’t impersonate or falsely claim to represent any person or organisation.
• Are written by you. We may remove comments that appear to be automated, bot-generated or generated wholesale by AI tools.
• Are in English. We don’t have the resources to moderate comments in other languages.
• Are on-topic – related to the article you’re commenting on – and don’t contain unrelated or inappropriate links to other sites.

How moderation works

Comments are reviewed before publication, or shortly after, and we don’t guarantee to publish everything. Approved comments appear on the site for discussion and may or may not receive a reply from the author or the Wonkhe team.

We reserve the right to edit (for example, to remove a phone number), decline, or later remove any comment, and to close comments on any article or suspend commenting altogether. Where a comment is declined for a reason not covered above, we’ll try to email you to explain why and invite you to make changes so it can be reconsidered. Persistent breaches of this policy may result in a commenter being blocked.

Your responsibility

You are legally responsible for what you write. By submitting a comment you agree to indemnify Thesis House Ltd against any liability arising from it, including any claim for defamation, breach of confidentiality or breach of copyright.

Your name and email

We ask for a name and email address when you comment. Your email address is never published and we’ll only use it to contact you about your comment. You can comment using a pseudonym or just your first name if you prefer. See our privacy policy for how we handle this information.

Under 18s

If you’re under 18, please don’t include anything in a comment that could identify you beyond your name, and consider using just a first name. If you’re under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before commenting.

Copyright in your comments

Comments remain your copyright, but by submitting one you grant Thesis House Ltd a non-exclusive licence to publish it, as set out in our terms and conditions.
