Latest World University Ranking

The all new ARWU world university rankings are out. As usual there are very few ups and downs.

2015 ARWU University World Rankings: Top 20 and UK placings

ARWU2015

Just out, at a bizarrely strange time of year it seems, is the latest ARWU league table.

Anyway, as in previous years there really is very little to get excited about as this is a league table where not much changes from year to year. The full rankings have been published and are now available at the ARWU website.

As in many previous years there are really very few surprises and almost no movement in the top 20 with Harvard retaining the number 1 spot yet again and everyone else just about unchanged too. Overall there is very little movement in top 20. The press release adds a little more colour:

Harvard University remains the number one in the world for the 13th year, other Top 10 universities are: Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, Cambridge, Princeton, Caltech, Columbia, Chicago and Oxford. In Continental Europe, ETH Zurich (20th) in Switzerland takes first place, and University of Copenhagen (35th) in Denmark overtakes Pierre & Marie Curie (36th) in France as the second best university in this region. University of Tokyo (21st) and Kyoto University (26th) keeps their leading positions in Asia. University of Melbourne (44th) tops other universities in Oceania.

University of Warwick (92nd) in UK enters the Top 100 list for the first time. There are totally 11 universities breaking into the Top 500 list in 2015, among which Queensland University of Technology in Australia and Sharif University of Technology in Iran make their first appearance.

There is much more detail on the methodology here for those interested in the nuts and bolts.

There is very little movement too in the UK positions with the exception of Warwick’s arrival in the top 100.
