SUs

This page helps you understand how your SU can access our subscription benefits.

If you’re a new SU subscriber, the first thing to do is get users signed up – you can do this here.

If you’re struggling to access a page on the site or you’re not getting our emails, do email the team.

A slide deck with the below information can be found here.

You can always find the latest Wonkhe SUs content on our subsite – it’s best to bookmark this page.

If you have any questions, you can always ping us a message on WhatsApp, or drop us an email.

Regular explainer briefings

Every week we publish multiple explainer briefings and beginner’s guides on key issues in higher education, and you can access to our archive of over 500 briefings on key issues and research findings on students and SUs. The latest explainer briefings can be found here, or there’s an index that gets updated every quarter here.

Every term we also publish a policy briefing for universities that is ideal for external trustees or those who need  to know what’s going on less regularly. You can find the latest version here – the password you need is summer2022.

Training

Every summer we run a thirty hour+ online programme of sessions. You can find the full archive of recordings and supporting materials, slides and blogs here.

Subscriber SUs also have an entitlement to a day’s in-house in-person training or facilitation for officers and/or staff on policy analysis, influencing, policy development and problem solving. Details can be found here.

If you’d like us to present to your trustee board on what’s going on in higher education policy, do let us know.

And for an extra highly competitive fee we offer an in-person, one-day masterclass on powerful public speaking – details can be found here.

Briefing emails

As well as access to the Wonkhe Daily email briefing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, you’ll receive a bespoke weekly email on a Friday for SUs featuring the latest developments, news coverage, analysis and opportunities for SUs – as well as news from around the network.

There’s an archive of these weekly emails online, and if you’re not getting our emails for any reason do drop us a message.

Instant alerts and chat

All SUs subscriber officers and staff have access to our WhatsApp news and policy alerts, and group chat.

This year we’re having to split by officers/staff to manage volume – but we’ll cross-post requests for info about other SUs’ activities on the chat group.

Whatsapp can be found on all good app stores (and there’s a version you can use in a web browser here). If you have any questions do email the team.

Big calls

Every week we run interactive sessions on issues that SUs will be discussing with institutions. As part of that you also get invited to our monthly Wonkhe Live event that we run for universities that summarises all the latest policy goings-on.

We’ll keep you up to date with invitations and topics in our emails – and you can find recordings in the archive.

Advice and support

As part of the subscription there’s regular catch-up calls and networking calls by role and project – keep an eye on emails for details of how this will work in 2022/23 when we restart in September.

In addition, you get Team Wonkhe on call, offering advice and support with your representation and policy issues as you need it. Drop us a message on WhatsApp or email us.

Event discounts

Wonkhe hosts events all year round – online and offline – and Wonkhe SUs subscribers receive discounts to each, including our Secret Life of Students event in the spring, and our festival of higher education: Wonkfest. Keep an eye on the “Wonkhe SUs” price on our event pages.

Consultancy

Whether you’re looking to review your institution-level representation, trying to think through new democratic structures or are looking to review the student protection arrangements for students at your university, we can help. At exclusive, subscriber-only rates we’re happy to discuss how the team can help. Get in touch.

Exclusive events and projects

Every year there’s exclusive projects, roundtables and events to get involved in – from research projects into the student experience to the annual study tour to learn about how other countries do student representation (extra cost). Keep your eye on emails to find out more.
