Julie Sanders is Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Newcastle University. She joined the university as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities and Social Sciences) in 2015. She is also a professor of English literature and drama in the School of English and has published widely on seventeenth-century literature, women’s writing, and early modern literary and cultural geographies, as well theories of adaptation. In her executive role she has special responsibilities for academic strategy and the three large faculties that make up the university (Humanities and Social Sciences, Medical Sciences and Science, Agriculture and Engineering). She is also the lead on the university’s work and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
