Iain Cornish is Chair of Leeds Beckett University, a member of the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) board, and was chair of the CUC steering committee which led the review of the CUC Code of Higher Education Governance.
Most of Iain’s executive career was spent in financial services in the building society sector, where he was chief executive of Yorkshire Building Society between 2003 and 2011. Since then he has held a number of non-executive directorships, primarily in the financial services and charity sectors. He was one of the founding independent directors of the Prudential Regulatory Authority, which is the part of the Bank of England responsible for regulating banks and insurance companies, and he also served as special advisor to the Treasury Committee for its investigation into the failure of Halifax Bank of Scotland.
