Gemma Derrick is Professor of Research Policy at the University of Bristol and an internationally recognised scholar of research evaluation, research culture, and the governance of the research system. Her work examines how assessment frameworks such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) shape researcher behaviour, research outputs, and academic practice. She is the co-founder of Hidden REF, an initiative advocating for greater recognition of the diverse and often invisible outputs and roles that underpin successful research
