The Director of Widening Participation & Social Mobility is a newly created strategic post responsible for a wide and varied remit of widening access and student success. The role has been designed to establish the University of Southampton as a sector leader, cultivating a progressive relationship with the Office for Students’ Directorate of Fair Access, and for meeting the civic responsibilities of a large university. The role is critical to providing an enhanced student experience by designing and delivering services that meet the needs of those underrepresented in higher education.

Through the leadership of four major teams that deliver actions across the student lifecycle, the role holder will have direct responsibility for the ongoing development, delivery, and monitoring of the Widening Participation Strategies and the Access and Participation Plan. This will help to ensure the university delivers exciting widening participation and social mobility strategies that change current and prospective students’ lives.

You will have significant and wide-ranging knowledge of the widening participation landscape and cultural and cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding. Your track record of leading teams is underpinned by the ability to deliver results in a rapidly changing area. You will possess excellent influencing skills and will be motivated by the widening access and social mobility agenda. With a leadership background amassed in a large and complex academic organisation, your extensive knowledge of the post-16 educational landscape will be global.
