Permanent Contract

Solent Students’ Union is a close team of professionals with great aspirations and increasing success, who believe that every student matters. We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Coordinator who will support the Representation, Advice and Democracy department in all areas of operation. Our vision is developing confident students at the heart of the Union and University which is underpinned by our mission to enrich the student experience through opportunities, support, influence, and action. We believe in having a one team approach to our work, and that student representation is a key aspect of our decision making.

The successful candidate will ideally have some knowledge and experience of working in a higher education environment, will understand the importance of student voice and academic representation, possess excellent communication and organisational skills, and understand best practice in a student facing role. They will take the lead on internal projects and support the elected officer campaigns, so will ideally have experience in both. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, a ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to prioritise a changing focus and workload managing their time effectively. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain positive and constructive working relationships with students, clients, customers, officers, managers and key University staff is essential.

The successful candidate will initially be assigned to the Representation, Advice and Democracy department however there will be opportunities to contribute and develop skills in all areas of the Union activities and services depending upon our priorities. Although they will primarily work on their own initiative, the successful candidate will be a proactive member of the team and will clearly demonstrate a commitment to our organisational values.
