This senior management position represents an exciting opportunity to join Academic Affairs: a major division within Academic Services, with responsibility for a flagship institute at a leading global university. The post acts as a deputy to the Director of Registry and Academic Affairs, providing business continuity and strategic leadership across the whole of the Division, and having particular responsibility for cross-divisional activity: e.g. IT systems, processes, procurement (including budgetary responsibility). The postholder has oversight and leadership of the Higher Education Futures institute (HEFi). The University has launched HEFi to lead staff development in teaching and learning, research on Higher Education pedagogies, and digital support and innovation. HEFi combines academic services, delivery and leadership with academic research and has a remit to:

  • Lead the development of evidence-based practice in higher education learning and teaching;
    Secure funded research on higher education pedagogies and deliver internal and external publications;
  • Contribute to the expansion of our digital education capability
    Constitute a highly respected evidence-based professional training unit for our academic staff which can deliver the UEB staff training target and develop and offer new signature ‘living lab’ (co-creation with students) and micro CPD programmes for all staff;
    Act as a focal point for the recognition and reward of excellence in teaching and supporting student learning; and,
  • Raise the profile of the University and its education agenda and expertise nationally and internationally.The post-holder will support the Academic Director of HEFi on the creation of the institute, and lead on administration, operation and business development including responsibility for all Professional Services staff within HEFi (approximately 30 staff). Reporting to the Director of Registry and Academic Affairs, the post-holder will work closely with the Academic Director and other senior staff from across the Corporate Services of the University such as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education).

Key functions of Registry include: definitive record keeping of student information and programme details on behalf of the University; supporting staff with academic and student-related Regulations and Codes of Practice and institutional and sector quality matters; examinations and results processing; review, approval and publication of programme and module information; student appeals and complaints; systems and processes for quality assurance and enhancement; collaborative partnerships; and development and support for academic and student IT systems.

The Higher Education Futures Institute (HEFi) within Academic Affairs supports academic staff to deliver effective and innovative teaching throughout their careers.
