Background

We are seeking to appoint a fixed term Research Excellence Manager in the Department of Enterprise, Employability and Research Development (EE:RD) at Canterbury Christ Church University, a friendly and supportive University with an exciting and ambitious new Strategic Plan for Research and Enterprise. https://www.canterbury.ac.uk/about-us/Strategic-Plan-for-Research-Enterprise.aspx

The post holder will work within the Research and Enterprise Integrity and Development Office (REIDO), which is responsible for ensuring that Research and Enterprise is of the highest quality and meets all required internal and external standards. This includes the institutional submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, as well as responsibility for development and implementation of the institutional research and enterprise integrity policies, research ethics, and contracts, and delivering research capacity development for staff.

The Role

The role will manage the final phase of the University’s REF preparation and submission, ensuring all relevant material and data are collated and ready. Excellent progress has already been made in developing the REF submission, including development and approval of the institutional Code of Practice , and we are on track for a timely and high-quality submission. In this final phase of preparation, the post holder will work closely with academic staff in faculties and the University senior leaders to ensure that preparations progress at pace and that the delivery of the REF submission goes smoothly. They will engage with external stakeholders to collate information, guidance and feedback in relation to various elements of the submission, identify good practice and disseminate to relevant internal stakeholders. The work is supported by a designated Research Excellence Officer, the REIDO team, and the wider matrix support team for REF within Faculties.

The Person

You will be qualified to degree level (or equivalent standard) with experience of the research process in Higher Education and knowledge of developing and implementing research and knowledge exchange projects, policies and procedures. You will have knowledge of Research Assessment and/or other statutory research returns

You will be able to work with confidence with different staff groups and across hierarchies and disciplinary areas. This a knowledge-based role, and you are required develop at speed detailed knowledge of the operations within CCCU and Research England guidance, and work closely with appropriate contacts, as well as be able to disseminate new external information appropriately to the relevant stakeholders. Experience of managing complex projects, working cooperatively with stakeholders to ensure a successful outcome, is an advantage. You need to be self-starter, inclusive and diplomatic in your interaction with others, outcome focussed, with attention to detail.  You are highly organised in your work and know how to prioritise work effectively, keeping to deadlines.

Previous experience of the REF submission context would be an advantage.
