The Dyson Institute is applying for New Degree Awarding Powers. If successful, it will likely be one of the first private higher education providers in the UK to achieve the right to award degrees via this route. As the Academic Quality and Standards Officer, you will have a unique opportunity to lead the development and implementation of The Dyson Institute’s academic quality assurance processes including programme design and development, programme monitoring and review procedures and assessment frameworks.

Accountabilities

As our Academic Quality and Standards Officer you will be a project lead within The Dyson Institute’s New Degree Awarding Powers delivery team, with responsibility for academic standards and quality

  • You will be responsible for developing and implementing the programme monitoring and review processes, as well as developing and implementing programme design, development and approval process
  • Your role will also see you responsible for assessment design, and the development of the assessment and moderation processes
  • You will draft academic policies and procedures, and lead their monitoring and review once implemented
  • You will provide advice and guidance to members of Dyson Institute staff on the university’s quality assurance procedures and policies
  • You will support the Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Manager in developing and implementing The Dyson Institute’s Quality Management and Enhancement Framework
  • You will monitor adherence to quality and standards requirements, and gather data and metrics to support effective monitoring
  • You’ll also prepare status and risk reports for academic standards and quality for the Dyson Institute’s Teaching, Learning and Quality Committee
  • A further part of your role will be to set up a Board of Examiners for the Dyson Institute

Skills

  • We are looking for an education specialist for this role. You must be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the UK Quality Code (both current and revised), as well as a commitment to, and passion for, ensuring high academic quality and standards
  • You will be experienced in drafting policies, processes and similar documentation
  • You will be an expert in curriculum design, development and approval
  • You will have worked in an institution during a QAA review
  • You’ll come from a background where you have worked with students to gather their feedback and insights
  • Ideally, you will have supported a Higher Education provider in its application for Taught Degree Awarding Powers
  • You will understand the continuous professional development needs of academic staff, and ideally have actively worked on schemes to support these needs
  • You will be comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable to meet changing requirements
  • You will be skilled at building relationships, and able to communicate clearly and authoritatively with those with little knowledge of quality assurance
  • You will be comfortable working independently
