The UK is a global leader in higher education. The UK higher education sector now has a significant number of providers, including 162 publicly funded institutions, which range from six of the world’s top 25 research-intensive universities to a number of small specialist institutions. There are 430,000 substantive staff employed in the sector which generates more than £95 billion of revenue for the UK economy.

The Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) represents the interests of universities and higher education colleges throughout the UK as employers. UCEA has recently appointed a new Chief Executive and is now seeking a new Head of Research to play the lead role in advising the Chief Executive and UCEA Board on research strategy across the range of our work, as well as ensuring delivery of a comprehensive programme of research, analysis and benchmarking outputs.

In this role you will take a forward-looking view of the needs of UCEA and its member HEIs in employment-related research, data analysis, HR benchmarking and other information needs. You will also be called upon to support and advise universities and HE colleges on pay and reward issues and make a significant contribution to joint work activities with trade unions. You will be a key member of the employer team involved in national pay negotiations and provide advice on the contextual issues as well as modelling pay outcomes. You will become a member of UCEA’s Senior Team and will contribute at a high level to the overall development of UCEA’s work and profile.

As Head of Research you will be expected to develop a significant profile and build strong relationships with senior postholders in member institutions, other agencies/professional bodies, trade union officers, relevant research and policy bodies/organisations and other stakeholders.

This is a permanent, full-time position and the current salary band for this role is £70,000 to £75,000 per annum. In addition, UCEA offers an excellent benefits package, including a defined benefit hybrid pension scheme and generous annual leave.
