The British Academy – the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences – is seeking a Deputy Head of Policy (HE & Skills) to take a lead role in developing strategy and managing the delivery of the Academy’s Higher Education and Skills policy activity, with specific responsibility for certain themes and activities, including human and financial resource management.

 

The post holder will support the Head of Policy (HE and Skills) in managing the operational delivery of the team’s programme and will take a lead role in advancing the department’s strategic planning. They will have a track record of success in a policy environment, ideally within higher education, first-rate interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels. Additionally, the post will manage three direct reports, therefore exceptional management skills and line-management experience is essential.

 

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable understanding of the landscape of UK higher education, not to mention being a creative and strategic thinker, with experience in setting up budget plans and managing expenditure effectively. They will have a strong understanding of the broader policy environment as it relates to HE and research, and can utilise this when engaging with stakeholders and experts who influence and shape policy.
