Chief Executive Officer (Students’ Union)

Expires

2nd November 2018

We are the students’ union of the University of East Anglia, where over 14,000 students come to study every year from all over the world. We exist to help students thrive and achieve their ambitions. We’re managed by a team of talented and committed sabbatical officers, and we employ over 1,000 people – including many students – in the beautiful cathedral city of Norwich.

Being student-led, we regularly campaign on vital student issues, as well as providing advice, guidance and lots of opportunities for volunteering and for skills development.

UEA (SU) is well-established and has a great reputation for offering its employees opportunities to develop and flourish. We are looking for a new CEO to take us to the next stage of our journey, and to help us build on our ambitions to continue delivering an amazing service to our student members.

We need an inspirational and visionary leader who can demonstrate outstanding communication, ability and a passion for success. Someone who has great people skills alongside great business skills. Our ideal candidate will be able to further build a positive and diverse organisational culture, and create challenging and motivational performance standards for our team. They will be able to lead contemporary best practice and ethical ways of working across the whole organisation and create clear accountabilities at every level to ensure objectives are understood, owned and achieved in line with our strategy. Maybe this is you?

You must be able to succeed in a multi-stakeholder environment alongside students, employees, trustees, elected officers, university senior leaders and others within the community. You must also have financial acumen and outstanding governance experience, and have operated effectively at strategic level.

Ideally, you will have experience of both a commercial and a charity environment where you’ve developed new income streams, delivered on strategy and shown yourself to be a great leader. The role is based in Norwich, Norfolk, but if you’re not based around here please note that relocation packages are available. Experience as a Chief Executive would be advantageous but not essential and similarly, it’s not vital for you to be in the higher education sector currently; but you must have the capability to make a difference and add value very quickly.
