The Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment has an international reputation for excellence and innovation and an ambitious desire to be recognised as one of the most exciting places to study in the world.

We deliver research-led teaching and outstanding support across undergraduate and postgraduate study in Architecture & the Built Environment; Computing & Engineering; and Art & Design.

As Associate Dean, Strategy and Development, you will support the Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean by taking responsibility for day-to-day leadership and management of the Faculty, and co-ordinating strategic planning and development.

Working closely with the Faculty’s Heads of School, you will be pivotal in ensuring the progression of partnership developments, contributing to the University’s mission, and the various international and national agendas.

 

As Associate Dean Strategy and Development, main duties include:

  • To have devolved executive independent decision-making authority on the operational management of the Faculty across the full range of business
  • To take a key leadership role in the strategic and operational planning of the Faculty, working collaboratively with other members of the Faculty senior management team, chairing and leading sub-groups, working groups, committees etc as agreed with the PVC/Dean
  • To support, or where appropriate, represent the PVC/Dean at University, local, national and international level, as required
  • To represent or support the PVC/Dean at external fundraising or high-profile events
  • To have strategic accountability for leading and planning in cross-cutting management areas within the Faculty e.g. internationalisation, employer engagement, community engagement as agreed with the PVC/Dean.

 

As Associate Dean you should have:

  • A higher degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional qualification
  • Worked at a senior level in higher education
  • Demonstrable team working skills and the ability to influence without recourse to line management
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of UK University/HE systems and procedures as they relate to the Faculty and to its business development and partnerships
  • A highly developed understanding of the role of professional statutory bodies in relation to the Faculty’s activities
  • A critical understanding of the role of external stakeholders in academic development and delivery
  • A creative outlook towards identifying and developing new business opportunities.
