Sam Toolan is Head of External Engagement in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at The Open University. He is a Board Trustee of Soumik Datta Arts, a student mentor at Homerton College, Cambridge, and a PhD student researching migration, ageing and psychology. He is a father of two. He writes in a personal capacity.
