The new MP for Illford North and former NUS President has impressed in his short time in Parliament by taking a proactive interest in higher education policy. The Labour backbencher beat his own front bench to the punch in tabling far reaching and interesting amendments to the Higher Education and Research Bill, on which he is campaigning vigorously in Parliament. A moderate voice, but with strong convictions, Streeting is well-known and liked in the media and the higher education sector, making him one of the most important parliamentarians of the moment for universities today.
