In the past six months, the University has been awarded  over £60 million of research & enterprise funding for two important platforms, the Bristol Digital Futures Institute and the Quantum Technology Innovation Centre, both to be based at the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, in the heart of the city’s new enterprise zone. The University is home to 18,000 undergraduate students, over 5,000 postgraduate students and almost 7,000 staff in six faculties, with a total income of £608 million. 2017/18 annual research income was £219 million. 13 Nobel Laureates are associated with the University of Bristol.

The University of Bristol is looking to appoint to the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise). This senior academic leadership position is a member of the University’s Executive Board and will be responsible for enhancing an already high-performing and world-leading research environment as well as engaging with a wide range of organisations, from funders to corporates to charities, regionally, nationally and internationally. The role will focus on growing transdisciplinary and innovative collaborations, internally and externally, and fostering knowledge transfer and commercialization, to create highly impactful contributions to the key global challenges facing society.

As such, we are looking for a committed international academic with a strong personal credibility in terms of positive leadership and superb partnership and relationship development skills. Backed up with a track record of leading the REF, having high-level published research and significant experience of developing and securing complex and sizeable research funding across disciplines. The postholder will also oversee the Bristol Doctoral College and have responsibility for postgraduate research students.
