Salary c£70,000 + benefits

London EC2 4YT

The British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education (BAC) is an independent, not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. It was founded in 1984 to be the national accrediting body for private (I.e. non-publicly funded) post-16 education in the UK. It is a registered charity in England and Wales.

The core business of BAC is the accreditation of independent higher education institutions, colleges and training providers, both in the UK and internationally, and the provision of consultancy services.

BAC currently accredits more than 230 institutions in the UK and internationally. These include professional training, short-course training, online and distance learning and Higher Education institutions. There is considerable diversity in the programmes offered by accredited institutions, including, for instance, drama training, audio engineering, complementary therapies, and animal osteopathy.

BAC’s international presence is expanding rapidly with accreditation activities in 22 countries. It is likely that the number of countries where BAC operates will continue to expand.

BAC also acts as the secretariat for the Council of Validating Universities (CVU).

BAC is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and the International Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE and is listed on The European Quality Register for Higher Education (EQAR).

We are continuing on a programme of development and diversification which will allow us to continue to meet our basic purposes while enlarging our professional and charitable activities. We are looking to grow, both internationally and within the UK to extend BAC’s sphere of influence.

The Chief Executive will provide transparent and supportive leadership to a small motivated team underpinned by consummate administrative, financial and IT skills. You will possess excellent strategic and organisational abilities, preferably though not necessarily from an educational context.

The personality and ability to exercise authority in a diplomatic manner, and a forward looking-looking approach to challenges and opportunities is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of vison, adaptability, entrepreneurship, energy, stamina and resilience.
