STAR & NUS Conference: Improving Access to HE for Asylum Seekers & Refugees
Asylum seekers & refugees face barriers when trying to access higher education in the UK including access to student finance, recognition of prior learning and navigating the admissions process. Conference organisers Student Action for Refugees & NUS have been working with universities and policy makers to address these issues under the banner of Equal Access since 2012. This is a successful and growing movement. Fifty nine universities are offering scholarships or fee waivers, several NGOs are delivering bespoke support and many refugees and asylum seekers are now studying as a result.
This conference will celebrate Equal Access initiatives at universities, share best practice and build a national community of stakeholders to grow the work. Our speakers include
- Baroness Valerie Amos CHDirector of SOAS
- Shakira MartinPresident of the NUS
- Ahmad Al-RashidMA refugee scholarship graduate
Attendees will be key people who are leading on delivering the work, including representatives from universities with scholarship programmes, refugee students and refugee organisations from across the UK. We look forward to seeing you on 31 January, get your £15 ticket here
