A quick look at the top 25 in the all new Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide ranking for 2017. The results were embargoed until 11.30 on Friday 23 September and full details will no doubt be found on the Sunday Times website (£) on Sunday. (Last year’s position in brackets)

(1=) Cambridge
(2) Oxford
(4) St Andrews
(5) Durham
(3) Imperial
(10) UCL
(6) Warwick
(9) LSE
= (7) Exeter
= (11) Lancaster
(13) Loughborough
(12) Bath
(14) Leeds
(8) Surrey
(18) UEA
(17) Birmingham
(17) York
(19) Sussex
(20) Bristol
(25) Nottingham
(16) Southampton
(23=) Newcastle
(23=) Kent
(21) Sheffield
(28=) Leicester

Cambridge is at the top of the pile and Oxford, despite being number 1 in the world according to THE, is only number 2 in the UK and Leicester rejoins the top 25.

Leeds is winner of the University of the Year title this time. Excitingly (for me) the University of Nottingham is named University of the Year for Graduate Employment and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Loughborough retains its Sports University of the Year title.

A fully searchable website with full university profiles and 67 subject tables will be published in the Sunday Times on Sunday for subscribers of The Times and The Sunday Times.
