Cardiff Metropolitan University is one of the UK’s most progressive new Universities, with around 10,000 students based at its two campuses in Cardiff.  It consistently ranks in the top ten per cent of UK higher education institutions for graduate start-ups per student, and this spirit of innovation and enterprise lies at the heart of the University.   Programmes and research are undertaken across five key Schools:  Art and Design; Education and Social Policy; Sport and Health Sciences; Management; and Technologies.   The University is part way through an ambitious strategic plan to 2023 that will see it concentrating on enhanced student outcomes with growth in international activities, disciplinary breadth and overall scale.   The University prides itself on the role that translational research plays in enhancing the student experience.

Good governance is vital to the health of the University and the role of University Secretary has become increasingly important in recent years.   The postholder will serve both as Clerk to the Board of Governors and as a full member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group and the University’s Management Board.  They will therefore be central in ensuring alignment between the executive and governance structures, roles, processes and practices.  The appointee will have line management responsibility for the newly combined Secretariat, covering all aspects of governance, data, compliance, strategy, planning and performance.

Ideal candidates will be highly professional and resilient with a strong track record in leading both compliance and strategic governance.  A high degree of personal integrity, combined with the agility to respond to new situations, is critical.  An ability to manage due diligence in relation to key decisions is important, as is the ability to make representation and recommendations to both the Executive and the Board of Governors in relation to all associated risks and opportunities for the University.

Mae’r Brifysgol yn ymfalchïo yn y rôl mae cymhwyso ymchwil yn ei chwarae i wella profiad myfyrwyr.

Mae trefn lywodraethol dda yn hanfodol i iechyd y Brifysgol ac mae rôl Ysgrifennydd y Brifysgol wedi datblygu’n rôl gynyddol bwysig yn ystod y blynyddoedd diweddar. Bydd daliwr y swydd yn gwasanaethau fel Clerc i Fwrdd y Llywodraethwyr ac fel aelod llawn o Grŵp Gweithredol y Canghellor a Bwrdd Rheoli’r Brifysgol. Bydd felly yn ganolog i sicrhau bod strwythurau’r weithrediaeth a’r drefn lywodraethu, y rolau, y prosesau a’r arferion i gyd yn alinio. Bydd gan yr unigolyn a benodir gyfrifoldeb i fod yn rheolwr llinell i’r Ysgrifenyddiaeth gyfunol newydd, yn delio gydag holl agweddau llywodraethu, data, cydymffurfiaeth , cynllunio a pherfformiad.

Bydd yr ymgeisydd delfrydol yn unigolyn proffesiynol iawn a hydwyth gyda hanes cadarn o arwain ym maes cydymffurfiaeth a llywodraethu strategol. Mae’n hanfodol bod gan yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus integriti, ynghyd â’r hyblygrwydd i ymateb i sefyllfaoedd newydd. Mae’n bwysig gallu dangos y diwydrwydd dyladwy o ran gwneud penderfyniadau allweddol yn union fel y gallu i gyflwyno achos ac argymhellion i’r Weithrediaeth ac i Fwrdd y Llywodraethwyr am yr holl risgiau cysylltiol a’r cyfleoedd ar gyfer y Brifysgol.

In an increasingly competitive higher education environment it is vital that the University’s People Strategy supports the continued success of Cardiff Metropolitan University through its people, policies and practices.   A new Director of People Services is sought who will be accountable for the successful delivery of all elements of Human Resources and take overall responsibility for the delivery of the Directorate’s strategic aims through policy, practice and people, thus ensuring that all activities reflect the University’s core mission, vision and values as expressed in the strategic plan. The appointee will be a full member of the University’s Management Board.

An experienced leader and motivator, the role-holder will have a record of successfully inspiring and leading a team to deliver across generalist and specialist HR areas.  They will have the ability to lead strategically on all matters relating to HR with a record of delivering great service, building effective working relationships and demonstrating passion and understanding for HR in a knowledge-intensive setting.

Cardiff Metropolitan University is one of the UK’s most progressive Universities, with around 10,000 students based at its two campuses in Cardiff and a further 9,000 students undertaking Cardiff Met degrees at 16 partner institutions around the world.  The University consistently ranks in the top 12 UK HEIs for graduate start-ups per student and this spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship lies at the heart of the University.  Taught programmes and research are undertaken across five Schools:  Art and Design; Education and Social Policy; Sport and Health Sciences; Management; and Technologies.  The University is part way through an ambitious strategic plan to 2023 that will see it concentrating on enhanced student outcomes, diversification of its portfolio and growth in its overall scale.  Taught programmes have high levels of student mobility, work experience and professional accreditation and the University prides itself on the role that translational research plays in enhancing student engagement and outcomes and in delivering positive social and economic impacts for Wales and the wider world.

A new Deputy Vice-Chancellor is sought as a pivotal member of the senior team, line managing the five Deans of School and working closely with other senior colleagues to ensure that the learning and teaching, research and innovation and global engagement agendas support the delivery of the strategic plan.  The appointee will lead strategic academic planning and performance and will deputise for the Vice-Chancellor across a range of portfolios.  The DVC will play a key role externally in positioning Cardiff Metropolitan as a global university that meets the economic, civic and international needs of Wales and the wider world by responding to student demand, employer need and national and international policy contexts.

Ideal candidates will have proven track records of deliverering innovation and change in higher education, with excellent team working skills and an action-orientated approach to achieving success. We are looking for experienced academic leaders who are able to provide evidence of working collaboratively with colleagues across an institution to improve performance and who have the inspiration, integrity, ambition and commitment to support Cardiff Metropolitan University achieve its full potential.  Candidates should have an earned doctorate and be of Professorial calibre, and able to provide leadership across the breadth of a singular Deputy Vice-Chancellor role.
