The British Academy – the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences – is seeking a Deputy Head of Policy (HE & Skills) to take a lead role in managing the delivery of the Academy’s wide ranging higher education, skills and research policy activity, with specific responsibility for certain themes and activities.

The post holder will support the Head of Policy (HE and Skills) in managing the operational delivery of the team’s programme, including line management of four policy advisors, as well as supporting the development and implementation of the wider Directorate strategy. They will have a strong understanding of the UK higher education sector and a track record of success in a policy environment, with excellent oral and written communication skills, research experience, and an ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels.

The successful candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker, with a positive, open-minded and flexible outlook and an ability to deal with complex issues and ambiguity, and to balance conflicting priorities within tight deadlines. They will have a commitment to the objectives of the British Academy, and to the value of the humanities and social sciences.
