About Huddersfield Students’ Union
Huddersfield Students’ Union is an independent, student-led charity. Everything we do is student inspired.
We aren’t your typical students’ union, located in a Yorkshire market town with the majority of our students commuting to study. We are central to the University experience for all students and work to support all aspects of student life for the 20,000 students here at Huddersfield University.
Our mission is to ‘make student life better’ we do this by providing a platform for good, creating a community where all voices are equal, and everyone is free and safe to express themselves. Giving students opportunities to enjoy good times with friends and feel supported on their path through Huddersfield University. We do this by running a programme of events and activities throughout the year, looking after student sports teams, academic, hobby, and faith-based societies and through our student networks. Our Representation Team are here to give a voice to all students on campus through campaigning, activism and Officer elections and our dedicated, independent Advice Centre Team work tirelessly to make sure that students are fully supported throughout their time at university.
About the role
Our next CEO will be someone who has vision for the future, is adaptable, not afraid to challenge the norm, who is authentic, very organised, and able to communicate at all levels within the University. They must be willing and able to embrace and grow a value-led, high performing, inclusive organisational culture which is focused on meeting students’ needs. We’re looking for a leader who is inspiring, supportive, commercially minded, authentic, innovative, and an outstanding communicator. You’ll need to be someone who can empower and support our elected student Officers to grow and achieve in their roles. You’ll also continue to nurture and build our relationship with the University. We work very collaboratively which is important to achieve the best outcomes for students.
We have a committed, long standing staff team who bring passion and expertise to all the work that we do. The incoming CEO will also have the opportunity to develop and embed a brand-new strategy for the Students’ Union, taking us through to 2027, which is also our centenary year! Work on developing this has already started and we are looking for a leader who brings commercial vision to support the completion of and roll out of this new 3-year strategic plan.
The successful candidate won’t necessarily need to come from the Higher Education sector, but you must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the trends and issues that affect our students at Huddersfield University. You should have a good understanding of charity governance, financial management, leadership, and strategic planning.
