The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, and today lead the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment. The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) came top in the league table of university research quality compiled from the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014). Based on our publication record, citations and impact, we rank among the world’s leading cancer research centres. As a college of the University of London, the ICR provides postgraduate higher education of international distinction. We also have charitable status and rely on support from partner organisations, charities, donors and the public.
The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.
Reporting directly to the Registrar & Director of Academic Services, this is an opportunity to move into a managerial post in an exciting and challenging environment. The post holder will lead cross-organisational activity supporting ICR’s drive to maximise research and student income. You will have responsibility for coordinating annual returns on staff, students, publications and research income. In particular these will include returns to The Office for Students (OfS), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), Research England, and the Higher Education Standards Agency (HESA). This coordination will ensure that we maximise core funding streams, and the post holder will contribute to the ICR debate on emerging regulatory and research funding policy issues, such as the current debate and evidence gathering on research sustainability. You will coordinate ICR strategic bids and, together with the Research Support Team, will support Faculty (academic staff) in applying for research funding.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an aptitude for pro-active management and will work systematically and efficiently to achieve results. You must be able to think strategically and have the ability to understand, analyse, interpret and explain complex information and data. A high degree of computer competency — in particular detailed understanding of the design and use of databases, spreadsheets and reporting tools – will be required.
Applicants should be educated to degree level, preferably in a scientific subject, and have an excellent understanding of Higher Education regulation and funding. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a successful track record in information management and systems development, and the ability to lead continuous improvement process for systems across ICR.
