Are you looking to develop your communications career in a B2B environment at a prestigious organisation? The University of Birmingham is one of the most ambitious institutions in the UK and we are determined to be placed in the global top 50, with investment and strategic plans in place to enable us to achieve our objectives. The Business Engagement (BE) team are looking for talented and passionate individuals to take our already successful corporate partnerships to the next level, whilst identifying and growing new opportunities. Our existing corporate partnerships have had a real impact on our University. They have allowed us to support and further our research, enabling our researchers to make crucial breakthroughs, and to offer academic collaborations, consultancy and CPD to our partners. We now wish to grow our networks and engage further with international, national and regional business and rapidly grow our corporate income.

To support this aim, we are looking for a Business Engagement Communications Manager. You’ll either be currently working in a communications role for another University and looking for a move to an ambitious and growing team, or alternatively may have been working in a commercial communications environment. You will have excellent writing skills and the ability, flare and imagination to disseminate important research outcomes in a dynamic and purposeful way that resonates with a lay audience. Your passion for writing excellent content and copy, and your attention to detail, will be one of your greatest assets. You must be comfortable in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences, including corporate professionals and academics, often at a senior level. Your success will make a direct  contribution to the institution’s intention to become a major global higher education provider, advance its reputation, and integrate this with business.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head of Business Engagement, and with a close link to the University Head of Communications, you will develop a strategic and tactical plan for business engagement communications activity to develop the reputation of the University amongst industry. You will be responsible for enhancing the external profile and reputation of the BE Team, and the University, through media relations, publications, digital and social media. You will develop and deliver digital communications that meet the needs of the Team and the expectations of the business audience. In doing so, you will deliver a step-change in digital content
produced by the BE Team and champion the use of digital communications and social media.

This is a wide ranging ‘hands on’ role which requires an individual who can provide both strategy development and personal delivery. Working as part of the wider BE team, alongside the College Business Engagement Partners (BEPs), you will be responsible for supporting this team in communications-related activity aimed at University engagement with business. You will proactively identify and ensure timely delivery of agreed communications opportunities relevant to the University’s Business Engagement Strategy focusing on impact, income and influence. Based on our beautiful campus, you will enjoy the fantastic benefits available to
University staff including the USS pension scheme, access to our sporting facilities, excellent transport links (including the University train station), and additional holidays at Christmas and Easter.
