Show them the money? Exploring effective governance of university finances
Thursday 29 January, 12.00-1.00pm
Financial governance is in the national policy spotlight with repeated warnings from OfS about prudence in forecasting, and a wide range of external risks to financial sustainability. Inside institutions, major strategic decisions are being made to manage in-year expenditure as well as review of longer term plans and financial commitments.
Join Team Wonkhe and our expert panel to explore what effective governance of institutional finances looks like when institutions are facing financial pressure. We’ll be asking exactly what boards’ financial responsibilities are and how best to discharge them, how to balance financials and mission, and the underlying issues when things go wrong.
Hosted by James Coe Wonkhe’s Associate Editor (Research & Innovation), with Karel Thomas, Executive Director at BUFDG; Joe Wall, Director of Finance at the University of Exeter; David Duncan, Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary at the University of Glasgow; and Iain Cornish, Chair of the Board of Governors at Leeds Beckett University, Chair of Leeds Building Society and also Treasurer of Macmillan Cancer Support.
