Clare Peddie

Clare Peddie is a marine biologist whose academic career has focused on education and student experience. She is the Vice Principal Education (Proctor) for the University of St Andrews, a position she has held since 2019, and delivers an academic student experience which consistently tops the National Student Survey and has contributed significantly to the university currently holding a double first in both The Guardian and The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guides.

Clare has held leadership roles contributing to the success of the academic student experience across the sector. She led the recent QAA Enhancement theme in Scotland ‘Resilient Learning Communities’, the outputs from which influence and impact teaching and learning enhancement. She is a Senior Academic Reviewer for the QAA and has conducted Enhancement-led Institutional Reviews of several higher education institutions. She is the deputy chair for the Quality Council of UK Higher Education and in her work on several national steering groups, working groups and strategic advisory committees has influenced both UK and Scottish Quality Assurance.  She still teaches marine biology in the field at undergraduate and masters level and maintains interests in the role of experiential learning in effective teaching.
