Alasdair Smith is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex where he was Vice Chancellor from 1998 to 2007. He has been chair of the Armed Forces Pay Review Body, chair of UCEA,  a member of the Determinations Panel of the Pensions Regulator, and a deputy chair of the Competition Commission, and he is currently a member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
