Founded in 1906, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is a globally renowned institution of the theatrical and performing arts. An independent federal member of the University of London, we inspire, educate and train the performers, practitioners and change-makers of tomorrow to shape the future of theatre and the performing arts. Our areas of specialism cover performance (acting, voice, movement), creative, design and production (theatre practice), and drama and applied theatre.
Central’s students consistently achieve and excel within the profession and lead innovation and creativity across the performing arts. Students benefit from a large number of visiting industry professionals, dedicated technical support and first-class facilities. Our graduates are producing and starring in television, theatre, films and festivals around the world, and consistently demonstrate wider impact through enterprise and activity in the creative industries and the community. Core to our identity is a genuine commitment to pedagogic excellence and innovation, as recognised in our Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold status. In 2014, our research ranked top amongst UK drama conservatoires in the Research Excellence Framework. The diversity of our offer and internationally-leading strength of our teaching and research places us uniquely amongst the landscape of the UK’s top theatre and performing arts institutions.
