Vice-President for Partnerships and External Engagement

Expires

10th March 2023

The University of Sheffield is special. A world class institution at the heart of our city. Driven by outstanding people working as One University. We believe our work has the power to change lives. Not just for those who study, teach and do research here. But for those who benefit from the breakthroughs we make every day. We continue to be recognised for our outstanding teaching and research and are a World Top 100 University (QS World University Rankings 2022), and home to 29,000 of the brightest students and over 8,000 staff from more than 140 countries around the world. We want Sheffield to be an international centre of excellence for centuries to come. We’re proud of our past. Yet it’s the future that really excites us.

Our University Vision is to deliver life-enhancing research, innovation and education that not only transform the lives of our graduates, but shapes the world we live in. This Vision is underpinned by four equally important pillars: Research, Innovation, Education, and One University. Our partnerships and stakeholder relationships will be critical to our success. Therefore, we have created a brand-new role, that of Vice-President Partnerships and External Engagement; a post focussed on taking the University out to key organisations and stakeholders. A cross institution position, it will be an integral part of our University Executive Board (UEB) and will work very closely with the thematic Vice-Presidents for Research & Innovation and for Education and with the Faculty Vice-Presidents.

Central to the success of this new role and the delivery of our vision will be for the post holder to establish a strong profile and professional reputation both externally and within the University. The new Vice-President will represent the University at the most senior levels and be instrumental in engaging and establishing meaningful partnerships within higher education, across government organisations, the tertiary sector, in the corporate sphere and the wider community, regionally and nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate will have the ability to establish social capital and credibility at pace and possess the requisite intellectual capacity and ambassadorial qualities to drive forward our external engagement agenda for the benefit of all our communities.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
