We are looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to join our Group Policy Unit, based in London, with regular travel to Coventry or based in Coventry with significant time spent in London. We’re not looking for the ordinary though, we need someone with a first-class understanding of the UK Legislative process, excellent interpersonal skills and experience of building and keeping relationships with government decision-makers and senior university leaders. You will also understand the strategic context and any political sensitivities of the work.  Passion for promoting the aims of higher education is advantageous.

As our Senior Policy Advisor, you will digest and dissect new policies, understanding and communicating on what’s relevant to Coventry University Group and their implications for University practice making sure the University is able to deliver on its Corporate Plan. A big part of the role is engaging, influencing, and informing relevant politicians, policymakers and enabling organisations in Westminster.

Person Specification:

  • Able to translate politics and policy into what the University needs to understand and interpret that into whatever actions need to be taken.
  • Previous experience working within a policy role
  • Knowledge of government processes
  • Demonstratable relationship building skills, being able to build up a credible, high profile in a short period of time with a wide range of stakeholders: parliamentarians, civil servants, government bodies and industry leaders.
  • Highly organised and prioritising your work and your time to meet tight deadlines.
  • Previous supervisory or line management experience (desirable)
  • A background and passion for education (desirable)
