The University of Nottingham World Institute

As part of a new £200m investment in our Vision for Research, the University of Nottingham is looking to make an ambitious and exciting step-change in our approach to supporting an enhancing institutional research reputation.

The projection of research reputation is fast becoming an investment priority for research intensive universities, with policymakers a particularly key audience for research impact. Researchers at the University of Nottingham work extensively with policymakers and governments across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. Our overseas campuses in China and Malaysia provide our researchers with a unique footprint to explore evidence-based policymaking from a truly global perspective. Nottingham research also informs the policies and practice of transnational organisations and the international NGO community – with academics from all five our faculties engaged in the development of interdisciplinary research solutions to intractable global problems.

The University want to increase the support provided to these researchers, encourage more researchers to engage with UK and global policymakers, and through the creation of a single research reputation vehicle; The University of Nottingham World Institute. The Institute will work collaboratively with Faculties, Professional Services and researchers to co-create a coherent and sector-leading programme of policy impact, public engagement and thought-leadership activity that improves levels of awareness and the perception of Nottingham’s excellence and expertise amongst key external audiences.

Senior Global Policy and Impact Advisor

We are looking to recruit an experienced, ambitious and dynamic professional who will work with colleagues across our three campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia to develop and deliver a programme that supports engagement between the University’s research and policymakers across the world.

The post of Senior Global Policy and Impact Advisor will lead the development of the ‘global policy engagement and impact’ pillar of the to-be-established University of Nottingham World Institute and then lead, manage and deliver the programme. The programme will be developed in conjunction with the University’s Departments of External Relations and Research & Innovation, in conjunction with senior academics from all five Faculties  – including the Governance and Public Policy Research Priority Area. It will build on award-winning policy impact initiatives such as the 2016 Nottingham in Parliament Day, and will be expected to launch in winter 2017/18.

The role-holder will have good experience of working either with, or within the UK and international policy communities, a clear understanding of both the policymaking and research impact processes and track-record of outcome-focused delivery across the event-management, communications, networking and stakeholder engagement spectrum. They will be expected to collaborate with colleagues to deliver a programme of events, communications and pedagogical development activity that will support Nottingham researchers to engage and work with policymakers.

This full time post will be offered on a fixed term contract until 1st November 2019. The post is open to a job share.

Interviews will be held Friday, 12th January 2018.
