The Midlands Innovation university partnership is seeking to appoint a Public Affairs Officer to a new role promoting the profile and reputation of the partnership.

Midlands Innovation is a world-class research and innovation partnership which combines the collective excellence of leading universities at the heart of the UK. The partnership brings together 8 universities from across the Midlands (Aston, Birmingham, Cranfield, Keele, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick) to develop large scale collaborative programmes. By pooling our individual expertise, equipment and resources and most importantly people, we present a compelling offer for national and international investment and help drive regional growth. As the successful applicant, you will have a unique opportunity to work across the Midlands Innovation universities and collaborate with their public affairs and marketing teams. You will work to raise the awareness and reputation within partner institutions, regionally and nationally.

You will work closely with members of the Midlands Innovation team and the partner universities to deliver activities that advance the partnership’s strategy along with developing and delivering a public affairs strategy, which includes authoring high-quality correspondence, briefings, presentational material and other appropriate collateral. Due to the nature of the role, you will be handling confidential and sensitive information, as well as working diplomatically with senior university staff and high-profile stakeholders and visitors. High-profile stakeholders will include Ministers and senior government officials as well as senior local government contacts. We will be looking for you to work, on a project basis to deliver effective and engaging marketing communications, to facilitate the profile of the partnership internally, to develop wider knowledge of collaborative research, showcase successes, and encourage staff engagement.

You will be employed by the University of Nottingham on behalf of Midlands Innovation. The collaborative nature and geographic distribution of its partners means you will travel regularly to meetings at the partner institutions. Expenses for travel between partner institutions can be claimed.

This position will be offered on a permanent, full-time contract however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 30 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Occasional out-of-hours working will be required. Job share arrangements may be considered.
