The Public Affairs Adviser will build the public affairs profile of UCAS across governments throughout the UK. There will be an expectation that this role will grow over time, becoming more senior as UCAS expands its public affairs profile and associated work.

Key accountabilities:

  • Plan and deliver UCAS’ public affairs activities across the UK.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the diverse cross-UK political landscape UCAS operates in
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key political figures and their staff.
  • Horizon scan for upcoming policy developments and activities relevant to UCAS.
  • Provide public affairs support to the Policy Unit to achieve maximum impact from their proactive policy projects.
  • Raise awareness and understanding of UCAS across governments around the UK, informing and influencing policy where relevant through high quality briefings, submissions and engagements.
  • Track the progress of relevant bills, select committee activity, and parliamentary process, raising awareness internally of these developments, circulating regular reports and insight on parliamentary activities.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing materials for political audiences and internal stakeholders to support UCAS’ strategic, policy and public affairs objectives. This includes UCAS’ bi-annual constituency briefing.
  • Identify opportunities and draft responses to relevant consultations, select committees and evidence sessions.
  • Undertake stakeholder mapping to identify key external stakeholders in priority areas, including MPs, Peers, civil servants, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage combined authorities and local authorities when relevant to UCAS’ work.
  • Develop and manage the parliamentary contact management database.
