About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Policy within UKRI-BBSRC’s Policy, Strategy and Evidence (PSE) domain, you will be responsible for progressing various biosciences policy-related activities within the team, including leading on, or otherwise supporting, specific cross-cutting policies.
This role includes the key function of developing and drafting BBSRC and/or wider UKRI responses to external consultations and inquiries in a strategic context. You will also analyse and communicate the outcomes from such activities within BBSRC (and wider UKRI, as relevant), as well as the wider policy environment in which BBSRC operates. The Policy Manager will also contribute to broader PSE domain and BBSRC office-wide activities as required, contributing to the successful delivery of UKRI’s vision, mission and objectives.
About you:
For this role it is essential to have a graduate level of education in a biological or related science subject, and/or equivalent relevant experience. You will have previous experience of managing or supporting policy development, or policy-related activities or projects. This roles requires excellent written and oral communication skills with good attention to detail: ability to develop and deliver well-structured and clearly-articulated documents and presentations for internal and external audiences.
This role will require you to have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will also have strong analytical skills, and experience of commissioning, interpreting, connecting, synthesising and summarising information from a range of sources to identify key themes and opportunities.
It is also essential that you are able to identify and take account of emerging scientific, economic, social, political and environmental trends in your own work and the work of the team, and you will have genuine interest in the aims and objectives of BBSRC. For this role you must also be willing to travel within the UK to attend meetings and occasionally travel overseas.
