The University of Nottingham is a hotbed of public engagement. We estimate that well over 1000 researchers, students and professional staff are involved.

Researchers at the University of Nottingham work extensively with global publics from our UK campuses in Nottingham and the East Midlands, but also with our host communities and nationals from our overseas campuses in China and Malaysia. This provides our researchers with a unique footprint from which a truly global approach to public engagement has been developed… just ask our Elephant conservation experts in Malaysia, where human-elephant conflict is a very local problem.

Nottingham research also informs the policies and practice of transnational organisations and the international NGO community – with academics from all faculties engaged in the development of interdisciplinary research solutions to intractable global problems.

The University of Nottingham is looking to make a step-change in its current approach to supporting the reputation and reach of its research. It is establishing a new University of Nottingham Institute for Policy and Engagement that will have a remit for driving improvements in this space across its five Faculties and three international campuses in the UK and Asia.

We are looking to recruit a talented, dynamic and entrepreneurial individual with experience of supporting and developing high-profile programmes of public engagement.

The Head of Public Engagement will lead the development and delivery of a sector-leading institutional approach to supporting public engagement with research – recognised by funders and accrediting bodies as such.

This new post will lead the development of this pillar of activity and then manage and deliver this programme in conjunction with the University’s Department of External Relations, Department for Research and Innovation, and senior academics from all five Faculties.

The successful applicant will have experience of establishing excellent programmes of public engagement, including successfully securing funding for activity and demonstrable knowledge and understanding of public engagement strategies, activities and impacts.

The role holder will report jointly to the Deputy Director of Communications, Advocacy and Global Affairs in External Relations and the Director of The Institute.

This is a full time, permanent position. Job share arrangements may be considered.
