The role:
- The Board of Governors is responsible for setting the educational character, mission and strategic vision of the University. Governors work with the Vice Chancellor and Executive to ensure the University’s success in a rapidly changing and competitive higher education environment.
- The Board monitors performance against core objectives and oversees the effective and efficient use of resources by providing appropriate support, guidance and constructive challenge to the Vice Chancellor and the Executive.
- Governors are expected to represent and promote the University externally with key stakeholders.
- The role is voluntary and unpaid, but Governors can reclaim travel and subsistence at University rates.
The candidate:
- You have an interest in higher education and share the University’s vision.
- You have experience of working at a senior level in business, the public or voluntary sectors. We are particularly interested at this point in time in recruiting new Governors with significant experience in the fields of finance, estates, information technology and human resources.
- You have leadership experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a good understanding of governance.
- You are able to commit to provide the equivalent of up to 20 days per annum to attend and prepare for meetings, panels and project boards, and for other University events. People from black and minority ethnic (BME) groups are currently under-represented amongst our Governors. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals who can help us to broaden the diversity of our Board.
