Job description

The Director of Academic Quality and Development provides leadership and strategic direction on quality assurance, academic development and innovation, and learning and teaching across the University. The role-holder has particular responsibility for producing the University Learning and Teaching Strategy ensuring that the University continues to maintain compliance with the Office of Students Quality Assurance requirements, the QAA Quality Code for Higher Education, the QAA subject benchmarks statements, the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body requirements. The Director of Academic Quality and Development has responsibility for the formulation, implementation and monitoring of procedures and regulations relating to academic programmes, overseeing processes of validation and periodic review of programmes and providing leadership for external quality review events.

The person appointed will work closely with the First Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, who is the institutional lead for the Teaching Excellence Framework. They are expected to have a proven commitment to aligning quality assurance structures and requirements with continuous improvement of learning and teaching. They are responsible for the development and implementation of the Learning and Teaching Strategy of the University.

The post holder will be an ex-officio member of Senate, Planning & Resources Committee, Senate Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, Programme Amendment Committee, Student Experience Committee and of other committees and working groups as appropriate.
