The Commercial Manager will be responsible primarily for the management of mobilisation, contract preparation and operationalisation. They will also assist with delivery of professionally written proposal and bid content that clearly articulates the OU’s business value proposition. The role holder will be a key part of the BDU’s busy commercial team ensuring the production of high-quality output working with commercial partners and internal stakeholders as required. He or she will also be responsible for reviewing and developing bid content and contract preparation particularly to support work in priority business sectors for the OU. The role holder will also be responsible for supporting activities associated with bid qualification, marketing intelligence and pipeline maintenance.

Key responsibilities

Work as a key member of the BDU Bid Team to initiate, write and edit commercial documents to support the sales and new business team delivery to income targets, working with a wide range of faculty and other stakeholders from across the University.

Liaise with legal services and other stakeholders (e.g. IP team) in the management of the formalisation of commercial arrangements via documentation and negotiation, supporting new business colleagues in the agreement of deals/executing commercial strategy.

Work constructively and co-operatively as a key member of a business-winning team, with responsibility for preparing the production of the bid response, driving and assisting in the production of bid answers and assisting with the development of bidding strategy and delivery processes and preparation and management to signature of appropriate contractual and commercial documentation.

Manage stakeholder relationships and outputs to encapsulate commercial principles and desired outcomes for commercial agreements.

Review and understand all bid documents to ensure the customer requirements are fully reflected in the bid. Gain an understanding of OU capability, the solution, Unique Selling Points and Win Themes to ensure they are adequately represented in the submission. Work creatively with others in the bid team to drive the quality and relevance of the response.

Review and upgrade/update content and collect content via multiple sources. Take responsibility for maintaining and enhancing centrally-held bid resources including case studies and references and for liaising across the University to support the development of bid resource requirements particularly in key priority sectors, such as health.

Develop market intelligence and maintain pipeline population in support of Heads of BDU/CDMs within the BDU, supporting growth and development of Salesforce contents.

Support bid qualification in advance of formal bid/no-bid decisions and maintain qualification status data and identify changes in the qualification profile.

Produce data relating to B&P forecasts, status and performance as requested by Head of Commercial Policy.
