Chief Information Security Officer

Expires

9th September 2019

Ref: GSe56542

The University’s ethos is built on the premise that education and research transform lives and societies around the world. This drives a commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and learning and to unlocking the potential of over 9,000 staff and 46,000 students across campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. At the University of Nottingham, the culture is ambitious, simultaneously creative and disruptive and without boundaries.

As our new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) you will lead on the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide information security strategy in support of a broad range of academic and operational activity, setting an appropriate tone and approach to compliance whilst prioritising business agility.  You’ll define and deliver a programme of work to ensure that the protection of our assets across international boundaries and strategically important partnerships is proportionate and effective, providing coherent leadership to a small, collaborative team to ensure that your positive impact is maximised.

In this enabling and at times, hands on role, you must build and maintain strong relationships with Faculties, Professional Services colleagues, the student body and external partners alike to maximise credibility and cooperation, educating, influencing and embedding positive behaviours at all levels. Your maintenance and maximisation of a relevant external network will also play an important role in informing and consolidating your position, encouraging a steady flow of ideas through the University to maintain commitment to this important discipline.

Currently performing a similar role in a large, ideally internationally active organisation, you will be a change agent and strategic thinker with strong delivery credentials and a pragmatic approach to information security as a discipline.  With relevant experience of information security strategy definition and implementation and proven experience in risk management, incident management and business continuity, ideally you will have worked in a big data environment, with prior exposure to progressive, information-led organisations.  To this end, you will need to be conversant with research data management and open access requirements and will have ideally operated across international and organisational boundaries.

This is an opportunity to build on strong work foundation in this area in an ambitious, highly respected, world class institution which is in pursuit of positive change and continued excellence.

At the University of Nottingham, we aim to give you all the support you need to nurture your talent, develop and reach your professional and personal career goals. We are committed to providing competitive employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a University employee, you will have access to a range of benefits and rewards, including leading fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with a generous holiday allowance and a highly attractive pension scheme.

This position will be offered on a permanent, full-time basis.
