Universities UK (UUK) is the collective voice for 140 universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our mission is to support our world-leading Higher Education sector in increasing its impact locally, nationally and internationally. We deliver this through shaping national and international policy; building public understanding of the quality and impact of the sector; offering support and guidance to our members and, advocating for the UK higher education sector in the UK and overseas. Located in offices in Bloomsbury, London, Universities UK will be led by Chief Executive Officer Vivienne Stern MBE from 1 September 2022 and the UUK Group comprises 150 staff.

The Director of Communications is a key leadership role at UUK, providing strategic direction to our campaigns, news and media, public affairs, digital and events teams and responsible for reputation management and building links with stakeholders and partners.  This is a critical position, where political and media handling experience and good judgement are essential, as well as being able to motivate and manage a talented and creative team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Director will work closely with UUK’s President and Board and offer support and counsel to members and their communications teams.

Candidates will be strongly motivated by our mission and vision and will bring a successful track record of leading strategic development, implementation, and management of communications, campaigns and public affairs in a comparably complex context. A passion for the transformative impact of higher education is essential.
