Academic Skills Advisers, working within the Academic Skills (ASk) Team, are responsible for developing innovative and inclusive academic skills support, using their significant experience and expertise in developing students’ skills. Our advisers work in collaboration with academic staff to develop and embed skills within the curriculum and to enhance student retention, success and satisfaction. Advisers also contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of our extra-curricular online and face-to-face provision, such as workshops, events and activities, resources and delivering one-to-one support.

Working within the DASA, the ASk team work closely with other teams within the Directorate in addition to internal and external stakeholders to support the student lifecycle. The other teams in DASA are: Outreach, Access and Participation, Apprenticeships and Careers and Employability. As such, excellent team-working skills are essential.

The Academic Skills team support undergraduate and post-graduate students, therefore you will have a good undergraduate degree, and preferably a higher degree. A recognised teaching qualification is desirable, and experience of undergraduate teaching or experience of providing academic skills support at HE or advanced FE level is essential. The evolving teaching and learning landscape in HE presents exciting opportunities for digital development and innovation, and so proficient IT skills and digital fluency are essential.

The Academic Skills Team work across all University of Chester campuses, creating opportunities for our advisers to gain experience of working with a wide range of academics, cohorts and individual students. As you will be expected to be able to work from home and flexibly across all University campuses and sites, a current UK driving licence or willingness to travel is essential.
