An opportunity has arisen to join our busy Evaluation and Policy Department as one of the team of data analysts, where you will contribute to the delivery of high level analysis and evaluation.

The Evaluation and Policy Department provides data and policy analysis, and insight and evaluation to support the University’s decision-making, to enable evidence-driven interventions and activities to deliver the University’s strategic priorities, particularly in relation to education and the student experience.

As data analyst, you will use your expert knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative analysis and excellent technical and analytical skills to be part of a dynamic and skilled team that are faced with high levels of demand at this exciting and challenging time for Higher Education. Working independently but closely with the other data analysts, and with key colleagues of all levels across the University, you will be supported and directed by the Insight Manager and the Head of the Evaluation and Policy Department.

As a Data Analyst your role will be to undertake robust analysis of large and complex data sets, from multiple data sources, in order to present insights that facilitate action to improve student experience and success. Our data team supports colleagues across the University in the analysis of student surveys (such as the National Student Survey (NSS) and the Postgraduate Experience Surveys), strategic projects, the creation of business intelligence reports and dashboards, and by responding to requests for ad-hoc data and analysis.

In order to be successful in this role you should have:

  • A strong background in data analysis, with experience of reporting clear, accurate insights to a diverse audience, making use of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A high level of proficiency in advanced functions of Microsoft Excel and possess technical skills in other software packages (for example SPSS, Power BI, R) to effectively analyse and visualise the data from surveys and other data sets.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage and deliver a number of projects running concurrently.
  • Experience of dealing with staff at all levels, including senior managers.
