Birkbeck needs a passionate, experienced communications professional with energy and charisma to lead a talented team and inspire excellent engagement with our community. You will be strategic and visionary about building Birkbeck’s reputation and Brand and capable of harnessing new and emerging communications platforms alongside more traditional practice. You will be responsible for Birkbeck’s Visual Identity and Brand ensuring that we reach all stakeholders, internal and external.

You will be a highly experienced communications professional with excellent media-handling skills, extensive experience of crisis communications, an exceptional eye for a good story and a good sense of humour plus a vision of taking Birkbeck’s brand and positioning forward. You will also have extensive contacts across the national media and the relationship-building skills required to develop these further. You will lead the team of communications professionals responsible for managing and enhancing Birkbeck’s reputation in the media and proactively promoting our world-leading research, staff, students and achievements.

Salary: Grade 9 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £54,268 rising to £60,600 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College’s London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
