Since Dr George Birkbeck created the London Mechanics’ Institution in 1823, the organisation that is now Birkbeck, University of London, has been the gateway for ambitious people to study in the evening. In so doing they not only change their own lives, but also make an immediate impact on business, the economy and our society.

Our model of evening teaching means we are uniquely placed to work alongside business. As we approach our 200th anniversary in 2023, we plan to invest in widening our intake yet further and raising our standards yet higher. Corporate partnerships will contribute significantly to our ambitious 200th anniversary fundraising campaign.

We are looking for a Gift Administrator to join our growing and dynamic Development and Alumni department. Our department secures donations from individual donors, corporate partners, trusts and foundations wishing to support the College and its students. The Gift Administrator plays a vital role in helping build a strong relationship with our supporters by ensuring their gifts and pledges are processed and acknowledged in an accurate and timely manner; allocated to relevant recipients and spent down to agreed timescales. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for monitoring and reporting of donor funds; generating income reports and tracking expenditure. The Gift Administrator will be in daily communication with donors and College departments, including Finance, regarding gift allocation, use and management.

You will be highly IT literate, particularly in Excel spreadsheets and word processing. An impeccable attention to detail and confidence with numbers and budgeting are crucial for this role. You will also enjoy working with data and presenting it in a clear and concise way. You will have experience of working to tight deadlines, office duties, administration and working as part of the team.

Salary: Grade 3 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £21,925 rising to £25,236 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College’s London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months. Birkbeck also provides a generous defined benefit pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and other great benefits.
