Birmingham City University is a large and diverse university with an enviable reputation for providing quality, student focussed learning based on creative and professional practice-based education. With students at the heart of everything we do, we offer a wide and fascinating academic portfolio that includes internationally acclaimed arts; and a world-renowned Conservatoire. Set in the centre of our thriving city, the university makes significant contributions to the regional economy and prides itself on its role in the economic, social and cultural life of the city. Investing £260 million in its campus development, the University boasts state of the art facilities and first-rate staff, developing professionally relevant practical skills and some of the country’s most employable graduates.

As the University continues to adjust to this increasingly dynamic sector, a critical part of our future surrounds how we create and shape the University’s planning and business intelligence activity.  Our new Director of Planning and Intelligence will develop the University’s strategic and operational planning culture, working closely with the Vice-Chancellor and senior leaders across the institution to provide robust strategic and operational planning processes that are informed by high quality corporate data and business intelligence.

The University seeks candidates who can drive a fundamental step change in the overall provision of insight and intelligence across the entire operating environment of the University.  We are open to applications from outside the higher education sector, but candidates must bring a proven track record of developing data driven, strategic planning processes in a related and complex environment that is increasingly open to market forces and an enhanced regulatory regime. Importantly, your work at a senior level must have demonstrably and positively impacted the decision making and direction of your organisation. This is a leadership role and it is important that candidates bring experience of releasing the potential of a willing and able team.
