Job Purpose:

To assist the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (CEMPS) and the College of Life and Environmental Sciences (CLES) in the development and delivery of their global strategies, with a particular focus on the development and delivery of international partnerships. Line managed by the Head of International Partnerships, the post holder will provide support for the Associate Deans of International and Development (ADID) in both colleges, and work closely with the Colleges’ Pro Vice-Chancellors (PVCs) and Registrars. The post holder will help to deliver the College priorities determined by the ADIDs and College Executive Groups, and will work alongside members of the International Partnerships team to deliver university level targets as determined by the Head of International Partnerships. The post holder will also liaise with the Manager of the Living Systems Institute in support of partnership activity specific to the Institute.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide dedicated support to the Associate Dean for International and Development (ADID) in the delivery, development and maintenance of strategic international partnerships and other global engagement activity, within CEMPS and CLES, in line with the University’s Global 100 ambitions.
2. Actively support the Head of International Partnerships and the International Partnerships team more generally in the development and delivery of global engagement activities at University level.
3. Act as the primary point of contact regarding Global Engagement and Development activity within Colleges, accessing the relevant partnership and global engagement expertise across the University as required.
4. In consultation with the ADID, College Executive Group and the Head of International Partnerships, identify potential global partners, and facilitate and manage these partnerships in order to contribute to the international objectives of the Colleges and of the University.
5. Work closely with colleagues across the University — in particular those in Quality Assurance and Legal Services — to deliver an end-to-end service in respect of international academic partnerships, and to provide an enabling, flexible and purposeful approach to regulatory aspects of academic partnerships.
6. Manage the relationship between academic staff, relevant Professional Service teams (e.g. Study Abroad, Research Services and the Doctoral College, Innovation Impact and Business, Marketing and Communications) to deliver partnership activities. This will require building on initiatives such as staff/student exchanges, progression agreements, joint degrees and jointly-funded research initiatives.
7. Act as the College representative for international academic partnerships, reviewing requests/proposals for partnerships, including e.g. Memoranda of Understanding, co-tutelle arrangements, split-site agreements, ensuring that both Colleges comply with the appropriate University quality assurance regulations. Support academic colleagues in the establishment of partnerships through undertaking relevant research, and creating and compiling appropriate documentation for the strategic approval of the relationship, and enabling the drafting of the legal agreement.
8. Manage the Outward Mobility Academic Fellowship Awards (OMAFs) and Visiting International Academic Fellowship Awards (VIAFs) process within the Colleges, ensuring that these budgets are spent appropriately and in line with College objectives and the University’s strategic goals. Offer advice to academic colleagues regarding OMAFs and VIAFs, keeping strategic internationalisation objectives in mind.
9. Work with the Associate Director (Philanthropy and Campaigns) and colleagues to maximise academic engagement in CEMPS and CLES in the delivery of the Campaign Plan and College fundraising targets.
10. Act as internal philanthropy liaison point for CEMPS and CLES in GED. Ensure the senior management of both Colleges are fully up to date with philanthropic progress against Campaign priorities, and that College objectives are represented and communicated internally to the Philanthropy and Campaign Team within GED.
11. Support the nurturing of philanthropic funding opportunities for specific initiatives as agreed with the Colleges (e.g. joint PhD scholarships). Work closely with members of the Philanthropy and Campaign Team and other Professional Services to support the smooth set up of new scholarships following philanthropic gifts.
12. In conjunction with the ADIDs, manage the administration of the Colleges’ international strategy groups, including drafting the agenda, setting meetings, preparation of paperwork.
13. Identify and develop PGR exchanges and shared degree opportunities with key CEMPS and CLES links.
14. Work with research centres to develop international links, host conferences/workshops, bring visitors to campus, promote visits – maximising partnership, research outcomes, reputation and philanthropic potential.
15. Create and maintain an international partnerships section on the college webpages.
16. Work with Human Resources to set up induction processes relating to international partnership activity – promoting international activity, highlighting key institutions and ways for academic colleagues to work with partners.
17. Facilitate the College international budgets, under guidance from the College Registrar and Head of Finance as necessary, to support strategic international partnership and fundraising activities and provide management reports.
18. To undertake such other duties as may be required within grade.
