Golden years

We’re rapidly approaching True Crime on Campus §50. The first post appeared on Registrarism over six years ago and was based on an idea taken from the Chronicle of Higher Education which published a selection of reports from US universities’ campus police logs.

True Crime on Campus has since become a staple feature of Registrarism over the years.

It seemed appropriate to assemble a top 50 of True Crime on Campus incidents for the 50th edition and all suggestions are welcome for inclusion in this best of the best list. If you search for True Crime on Wonkhe you will find them all so you can pick your favourites.

  1. My favourite would be the report of a pigeon in the Business school being escorted from the building

    1. I have to say, that was my first thought too. I am still hankering after photographic evidence. I just want to know how burly security men *would* escort that pigeon. Take it under the wings? HOW????????

  2. My fav, because it was one of my team implicated … 0800 Report of a male with a rifle adjacent to Lenton and Wortley Hall, Security attended the area was searched the male could not be located.

  3. I am still recovering from seeing 2 young boys swimming without a care in the world in the Jubilee lake yesterday and being fished out by Security.

  4. then, there is also this gem from a previous highlights edition:

2325 Report that a picture had been taken off the wall at Hugh Stewart Hall by a Pirate. The Pirate had gone in the direction of the Mooch Bar. Security attended the Mooch where they found over 40 Pirates none of whom had the picture.

  5. It has to be the ‘Hide & Seek Society’ (from 2012) ‘Officers located the other hidden students…but declined an offer to take their turn to hide,’ Wonderful…

  6. It has to be the ‘Hide & Seek Society’ (from 2012)

2010 Report of a large number of students running around the Trent Building. Security Officers attended. The students hiding explained that they were playing hide and seek. The Hide and Seek Society President was found by Officers and spoken to. Officers conducted a search of the building and located all the other hiding students. I understand that Officers declined their turn to go and hide

    Wonderful,,,

  7. This one:

0343 A student contacted the Security Control room for advice on how to treat a black eye. Security attended Ancaster Hall. The student stated that they had been struck in the eye by a flying chicken nugget while in McDonald’s in the City. Security checked the eye and gave advice.
